After more than two decades of neglect, the Kerowagi Police Station has received a significant facelift, thanks to a collaborative funding partnership that promises to transform policing services in the region.
The long-overdue upgrade, which includes major infrastructure rehabilitation, is the result of a tripartite agreement between the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary (RPNGC), the Kerowagi District Development Authority (KDDA), and the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
For over 20 years, police personnel in Kerowagi operated out of dilapidated facilities that lacked basic amenities, hindering their ability to effectively serve the community. The infrastructure had fallen into a state of severe disrepair, reflecting years of underfunding and neglect.
The completion of the renovation project marks a turning point for the station. Local police officials confirmed that the upgrade is expected to significantly boost the morale of both male and female officers stationed there. The improved environment provides a more professional and conducive workspace, which is critical for effective law enforcement operations in the district.
โThis is more than just a new coat of paint; it is a new beginning for security in Kerowagi,โ a local police representative stated. The upgraded station will allow for better community engagement and more efficient service delivery.
The project highlights the effectiveness of pooling resources through partnerships. By combining the efforts of the national police force, local district authorities, and international development partners like the ADB, the government aims to restore vital public services that have long been neglected.
Residents of Kerowagi have welcomed the development, expressing hope that the new facilities will lead to a more visible and motivated police presence, ultimately contributing to improved law and order in the district.
