In an extraordinary community effort, Gena-Waugla residents have constructed their own K300,000 police station without waiting for government funds. Local carpenter Gigmai Teka and businessman Jerry Michael led the nine-month project, creating a fully certified facility that opened on February 7, 2025. MP Francis Kikin Siune praised the initiative as a game-changer: “When communities lead, real change happens.”
At the opening ceremony, Provincial Police Commander Mazuc Rubiang applauded the locals’ proactive approach to improving security. The self-funded station has become a model for the district, prompting MP Kikin to redirect development funds toward accountable community projects. “This builder completed the work first, then submitted his invoice – that’s rare and commendable,” Kikin noted.
The success has inspired other villages, proving grassroots action drives progress. “We believed in our MP but knew we had to help ourselves,” said financier Jerry Michael. With the KDDA now supporting staffing needs, Gena’s pioneering spirit shows how communities can shape their own future through determination and teamwork.
