Kerowagi MP and Vice Minister for Public Service, Hon. Francis Kikin Siune, officially opened two (2) new classrooms at Gagl Primary School and a maternity ward at Gagl Health Center on 28th November, 2026.
The MP returned to his alma mater to commission two new double classrooms funded under the District Services Improvement Program. Gagl Primary School holds special significance as it has educated many of Kerowagi’s leaders, including Siune himself. The school serves children from the Gena Waugla and Sambugla tribes and remains one of the most popular schools in the district.
The new permanent classrooms will replace ageing facilities and provide a better learning environment for students. Siune told the gathering of parents, students, and elders that he wants children from the area to have the same opportunities he had.
Following the school opening, Siune commissioned a new maternity ward at Gagl Health Center, funded under the Rural Service Delivery Program with support from the World Bank. The haus karim addresses a critical gap in maternal health services for the area. Previously, expecting mothers faced difficult journeys over rough roads to access proper delivery facilities, with some failing to reach help in time.
The new ward is equipped to handle safe deliveries and provide care for mothers and newborn babies. Health workers at the center welcomed the facility, saying it will enable them to serve the community better.
Elders from the Gena Waugla and Sambugla tribes attended the ceremony along with traditional dancers celebrating the occasion. They thanked the MP for remembering his roots and delivering projects that benefit the community.
Siune acknowledged that more work remains, including providing furniture for the classrooms and medical supplies for the maternity ward. He committed to continuing work with stakeholders to address these needs.
The projects demonstrate ongoing efforts to bring basic services to rural Kerowagi under the district’s development agenda.
