MIUNDE PRIMARY SCHOOL CELEBRATES NEW SECURITY FENCE

MIUNDE PRIMARY SCHOOL CELEBRATES NEW SECURITY FENCE

Miunde Primary School in Upper-Lower Kornigle marked a significant step forward in education security on 26th February with the official commissioning of its new perimeter fence, funded by the Kerowagi District Development Authority (KDDA). The project, spearheaded by local MP Hon. Francis Kikin Siune, addresses critical safety concerns for 700+ students while combating vandalism and livestock intrusions that previously disrupted classes. “This fence does more than protect buildings – it safeguards our children’s learning environment and our community’s future,” emphasized Kikin during the ceremony, attended by teachers, parents, and local leaders from surrounding wards.

The sturdy barrier brings immediate benefits to Miunde’s predominantly agricultural community, where wandering animals and unauthorized access frequently interrupted lessons. Teachers reported the fence will add instructional hours previously lost to disruptions, while parents celebrated the enhanced child safety. “An educated society will change Kerowagi District,” declared MP Kikin.

During the commissioning, MP Kikin challenged other communities to partner in education projects: “When we protect our schools, we protect the engines of progress that will lift all of Kerowagi.” With other similar projects earmarked for the future, the district demonstrates how strategic infrastructure can catalyze both academic success and community cohesion in rural PNG.
